Tactical Computer - Evasive Tactics

The Tactical Computer system provides a fast escape procedure in case of an emergency.
When the "Evasive Tactics" subsystem is activated all navigational control is passed on to the Navigation Computer.
The 'Evasive Tactics" procedure is initiated by pushing down the Evasive Tactics Control switch.
The Evasive Tactics Control switch is located in the right-hand side console, bottom section. When Evasive Tactics is enabled the red indicator next to the switch is lit.

Start "Evasive Tactics" operation

When the Evasive Tactics subsystem is activated the following actions are performed.
  1. First, the Tactical Computer checks if there is a real threat from an other space ship. This means that an other space ship has fired upon the Star Ship. If so, the Tactical Computer triggers the Navigation Computer to calculate and lay in a course heading that provides the fastest escape trajectory away from the attacking space ship.
If the Evasive Tactics subsystem is activated while the Star Ship was not under attack, a course heading 180 degrees opposite to the current trajectory is layed in to the Navigational Computer. Although this is a quick way to 'just reverse' the current course, there is a penalty invoking the Evasive Tactics subsystem as it consumes an additional amount of the Ship's energy resources.
  2. As the Evasive Tactics subsystem is an emergency system (normally), all deflector shields are raised to maximum strength.
This also imposes an extra drain on the energy resources. The energy resources are NOT unlimited.
  3. The Star Ship's Alert condition is automatically set to 'RED'.
  4. If the Star Ship was in orbit, the Star Ship breaks out of orbit.

"Evasive Tactics" activated

As you can see from the picture, the Star Ship broke out of orbit and the shields are raised to maximum operational status which is 1,99. The small "A" left of the value read-out indicates that the average setting of the six shields is on the display.
Note: the velocity of the Space Ship is NOT adjusted. It is left up to the Captain to determine what velocity should be set.
As long as the Evasive Tactics subsystem is active the Navigation Computer does not respond to any of the following requests. The Evasive Tactics subsystem is de-activated by pushing up the Evasive Tactics Control switch.
Note that switching the Evasive Tactics subsystem off-line does not automatically lower the deflector shields. The condition 'RED' Alert status is changed to 'Yellow' Alert. After an emergency escape, although the real threat is lifted, it is left up to the wisdom of the Captain to lower the deflector shields and, possibly, return to 'GREEN' or 'BLUE' Alert status.
